A Sunday Prayer

Morning Prayer

O God, my Father, I give you thanks for this Lord's day. Help me to use it for Your glory, for my good and what you want me to do.

Help me to use it to rest, so that tomorrow I may go back refreshed to my work.

Help me to use it when I can in company of friends and loved ones, that I can become even closer in fellowship with them.

Help me to use it to worhsip You, whether at home or church, to talk with You, to listen to You, to come closer to You, and not forget You in the coming week.

Bless all those who preach or teach Your truth this day, in this land and across the sea, and may a door be opened to prosper Your word, on the lips of preachers and in the ears of the listeners, that it may not return to You void and empty, but that it may accomplish where You send it. This I ask for you love's sake.

Amen

Luke 4:16 - 19

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
    because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19     to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Evening Prayer

Heavenly Father, whose desire it is that all men should be saved, bless every word which has been spoken in Your name today; and grant that the words of Your teachers and preachers may have winged their way into the hidden depths of many a heart.

I ask You to bless all missionaries, organisations, who have gone out to take Your word whether near or far around the earth.

In their loneliness, cheer them; in their difficulties, strengthen them; in their problems, encourage them; in their tasks, inspire them. May they know they are upheld in thinking of them, and praying for them. May the knowledge of You hasten to cover the earth.

Bless me Lord; may the company of You today enrich my life with your Spirit: through Jesus Christ my Lord.

Amen
