Psalm 145 : 9 -16 & Prayers

PRAYER & READING

Morning Prayer

O God, my Father, bless me and keep me all through today.

At my work, make me diligent, ever showing myself to be a workmate who has no need to be ashamed.

In my pleasure, help me to find delight only in such things as brings no regrets to follow.

In my home, make me kind and considerate, ever trying to make the work of others easier, and not harder.

In my meetings with friends, make me kind and courteous.

And in every moment of this day make me always to remember that you see me, and that with you, I live and move and have my being. So grant that I may do nothing which would shame myself, grief to those who love me, and sorrow to you: through Jesus Christ my Lord.

Amen

Psalm 145:9-16 New International Version (NIV)

The Lord is good to all;
    he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
    your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
    and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
    and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
    and faithful in all he does.
[a]
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
    and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
    and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
    and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

Evening Prayer

O God, my Father, who asks me to pray for all people, I remember at evening time those who specially need my prayers.

Bless those who are lonely, and who feel their loneliness worst of all at evening time.

Bless those who are sad, and who at evening time feel most of all the absence of some one whom they have loved.

Bless those who are ill, and who will not sleep this night; and those who this night will wake to ease the sufferer’s pain.

Bless those who have no home, no family circle to call their own.

O God, who’s presence is everywhere, bless this my home, and help me to remember that Jesus is always my unseen guest, and so help me never in this place to do or say anything which would make Him sad to see.

Keep me this night in the dark hours, and grant me sleep, and feel your everlasting arms around me which will never let me go,

through Jesus Christ my Lord.

Amen
